Some see horse slaughter as a human necessity.

As mentioned earlier, some people need the option of horse slaughter, but there are other reasons behind this need. When owners are faced with deciding the fate of a horse who is old, injured, or ill, they often want options on what to do. Currently, these options are to euthanize a horse or try to heal it. Both options can become pretty costly.

Equestrian, barn manager, and horse lover Jeff Klinzman, is the one who claims that horse slaughter is a human necessity in the article he published on The Gazette’s website. In this article, Klinzman discusses euthanizing horses. He explains that vets do not always administer the proper lethal dose on the first try, which can be considered inhumane. He also notes that the price of euthanizing a horse humanely can be over $1,000, which is a price that may be too high for some.

Enter the option to send a sick, old, or injured horse to slaughter instead of euthanizing it. This could be more humane than euthanasia, and is most definitely cheaper. In addition, the improper treatment of a horse and the inability to appropriately care for them is a form of torture and is inhumane. More inhumane than slaughter.

Horse owners deserve to have choices when it comes to the animals they love and care for. Without horse slaughter plants in the United States, their options are limited and often more expensive or inhumane than slaughter.
